Interactive websites or websites rich in first-language speaker audio resources

Memrise is an interactive website that features audio recordings and opportunities to practice what you learn, earning points as you go. It includes a leaderboard. To find Cherokee materials, once you are logged in go to Languages >Native American > Cherokee. On Memrise select Cherokee under the Languages menu to see all the Cherokee-related content. Or go to the search bar and search for specific courses; here are some example courses.

  • Learn Cherokee: Level 1 (Western dialect)
  • Myrtle Driver Johnson’s Textbook (Eastern dialect)
  • We are Learning Cherokee lessons created by Mike_White 33 (Western dialect)

Cherokee Language Exercises includes exercises where you can practice identifying tones in words and learn new vocabulary.

Mango Languages has Cherokee lessons that focus on basic conversation. It includes audio recordings and was developed in collaboration with Cherokee Nation speakers.

Cherokee Speaks, an Eastern dialect website, has audio for the syllabary and commonly used words, videos, and interviews with residents of the Snowbird Cherokee Community.

Shiyo, from the Eastern Band, boosts vocabulary one word at a time; includes audio recordings.
